Southeastern Meeting of the American Society of Biomechanics

April 27-29, 2008 - Birmingham, AL

HOTEL ADVICE:

The meeting is shaping up very nicely, but one unexpected issue has come to our attention, namely there is a big race at the Talladega Superspeedway on April 27.  While Talladega is about 45 miles East of Birmingham, the race should draw about 150,000 more people that SEASB will.  Therefore hotels in the Birmingham area for that week are filling up quickly.  We strongly advise you to reserve a room for SEASB as soon as possible.  Some hotel choices are shown at www.seasb.org.

TRAVEL TIME:

The Talladega race begins at 1:00pm Central Time on Sunday, April 27.  (Driver introductions begin at 12:30 pm).  Therefore if you are driving to SEASB on Sunday, the best idea is to be on the road while the race is underway.  This is especially true if you are driving to Birmingham on I-20 West; ideally, you want to pass Talladega some time between 1:00 pm and 4:00 pm.  Remember, Alabama is Central Time.  The worst possible idea would be to try to pass Talladega on I-20 at about 5:00pm or later on April 27; good luck if you do.
